PRESIDENT’S COMMUNIQUE #3

From:  Laurel Phyall, President Date:  November 9, 2021

Heavy rains remind us of challenges in life.

Never ask for a lighter rain, just pray to God for a better umbrella.

That is the attitude!

I was pleased to see so many (57) at the Interim Meeting/League Development Day. I wish to share the telephone call I received from Bishop Gary Gordon, the following Monday morning congratulating us on hosting the Kairos Blanket Exercise. He indicated it was a big first step for us toward ‘Truth & Reconciliation’.

New Themes: Provincial President, Sharon Geiger, has announced her new theme ‘Embracing Christ in Everyone’ We are invited to start using this theme for inspiration right away. It will flow nicely with our new Diocesan theme ‘Sow Love Generously’ and National’s new theme that will come in effect Jan 2022 of ‘Catholic and Living it!’

Provincial 2022 Convention: Due to the continued uncertainty of Covid restrictions and the National Convention being held in Kelowna this year, the Provincial Council is opting for a hybrid AGM with the provincial council members only meeting in-person and other participants attending virtually via Zoom. There is a hope that this will allow more to attend the National that is so close to home!

BC Accessibility Survey: This 5 minute survey will provide feedback that will inform changes to the next BC Building Code. Available at www.engage.gov.bc.ca until December 9, 2021.

Training and Development Using Technology Survey: It can be done on a mail in form or online at form.jotform.com/212846340382050 (I have already done it and it only took a few minutes).

Your feedback is very important. The working group is looking for responses from members throughout Canada. Every voice matters. The deadline to participate is December 15, 2021.

Gratitude Project: To conclude the 100th anniversary projects, the centenary committee asks parish councils to encourage members to participate in the gratitude project. The gratitude project postcard (#324) can be downloaded from the national website under the 100th anniversary celebrations link at cwl.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/324-Gratitude-Project-Postcard-2021.pdf or under the 300 Series: Promotional Materials. This project will conclude on July 31. 2022, with a final report and conclusion of the 100th anniversary celebration at the national convention.

Food Bank Project: September 2021 – June 30, 2022 – Parish councils are invited to participate in this project to boost the supplies at local food banks. Councils will have ten months to collect, volunteer, tally their donations and submit their efforts. A detailed report will be provided to celebrate council’s contributions and participation. This also includes support of Mary’s Meals.

All for One and One for All: November 15, 2021 – February 15, 2022 – Membership Contest – We are asking every Catholic Women’s League member to ask one person to join the League. Contest rules are on our website: www.cwldov.org. While you are there check out the new front page with the new Diocesan theme!

League Training: 1. Executive Orientation Program: Have you watched the modules individually or as a group? Have you sent your evaluation forms to Bertha Landrie?

2. Welcome Program: Are you using it to attract new members?

‘Spread love everywhere’ – Mother Teresa

God bless you in your faithful work “For God and Canada”

Laurel
